An Orphan

I met this young lady here in Canada... here is a little bit of her story.

Katya was just a baby when her mother dropped her and her brother off at an orphanage in Siberia. It was the only home she ever really knew. Years later some official told her that her father was dead… “Wow, I had a dad!” Then one day some people came and took her away. She got to go on an airplane. They put her in a room with lots of toys and new clothes, what did this mean? Where were all her friends? She had a new mom and dad now, she had a new family. She learned a new language and tried hard to fit in. She missed all her “sisters” or the girls from the orphanage. She did not miss the food. Slowly over time she began to understand. A new family, a new language, a new country, a new life – thank you God.
She knew that chances back in Russia were slim. At 18 they would have say goodbye and she would be left to her own devices at finding work or something to sustain her. She openly talks about how she probably would have ended up as a prostitute, selling her body in order to survive. She is so thankful for a mom and a dad who love and care for her. She is so thankful.

*Note* She was about 8 when adopted and her brother was 10. It is very rare for people to be willing to adopt children who are already that old.
