Telemarketers

Don't you just love telemarketers?

For those of you who do not know what or who they are, let me expain. Telemarketers are people who are hired by companies to phone innocent people throughout North America at the most inconvenient times. (eg: supper, putting kids to bed, watching your favourte program)
They phone to try and convince you to buy some random product like insurance.
One fact about telemarketers is that most call centers(those are the places they work from) are in India or in some other place other then where you are.

There are numerous ways that people can deal with telemarketers. I would like to share some of the classic ways to handle them and then some other ways...

"No thankyou, Goodbye!"
"I am not interested, no really, I don't want it. Look I am busy, I really have to go."
Hang up

"Hello." Then when you realize who it is you can continue with... Hello... John isn't home right now, please leave a message after the beep. BBBEEEEEPPPP."
Another version on the above
"Hello.... hello, is anybody there? - So you act like you can't hear them and then you hang up.

Someone's Grandma does the following in hopes of not being to rude. When she realizes that it is a telemarketer, she puts the phone down but does not hang up. She then continues on whatever she was doing and in 10 or 15 minutes she checks to make sure they are no longer there. Then she hangs up her own phone again.

Then there is my mom... she is special and has decided that she will always be kind to telemarketers. She will let them share and she will tell them she is not interested but then she will continue to engage them in conversation by asking them where they are and what the weather is like where they are.

Recently she was engaged in conversation with a telemarketer. This time though she was teaching the telemarketer that he really could not give her a lower mortgage rate... she then preceeded to tell him why. They talked for a while and then he came out and asked my mom if she would marry him!! My mom replied that she would not!
Now we are keeping a scoreboard for my mom on how many marriage proposals she can get from telemarketers!!!
