Have you read this book by Darin Hufford?
I would encourage you to check it out. Allow yourself to be challenged by his message to love in a way you have never loved before. You may not agree with everything he writes… but don’t throw it all out. Read it with an open mind, allow God to speak to you through it. Be challenged afresh.
He takes 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 and takes a chapter for each characteristic of love; breaking down what love is…
“Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
The most challenging chapter for me was that love is kind. Darin explains about what kindness is and talks about how in the world today we almost long for unkindness… for we see that as a kind of strength… or manliness.
“Unkindness has lost its stench and has become strangely compelling to many while kindness fades away into an almost unappealing persona.” Pg 72 - God’s Honest Truth
I was so challenged because I can recognize the fact that sometimes I think kindness is a joke and I can look upon as something weak. Darin goes on to talk about the power of kindness. It is God’s kindness that leads us to repentance.
“Kindness has a force behind it that literally crushes the power of fear and stimulates the hearts of His children.” Pg 84 – God’s Honest Truth
I want to experience that… I need that in my life! I know I have experienced that but I want more!
This was just one of many things I was challenged with in reading this book. So again… check it out!
