Part 1

Below you will find part one of a story I am working on. It is a story based on the true story of a couple I recently met. I think this couple is incredibly brave and I hope I have the privilege of getting to know them more. There story is very much on going!!

The story is written from the perspective of the young lady and also of the man who initiated helping them. One paragraph her and one paragraph his. ENJOY!

PART 1
The man walked into the stairway, I glanced up as I always did but he was just like any other man. There were many who walked by us every day. They looked through us. We were no one to them. We were just thankful they let us stay. They let us stay out of the cold and rain. Allowed us to stay rather then calling the police.

I was visiting a friend. A new friend for the first time, I had never been to their apartment block before. I walked in and was shocked at what I saw. There hidden away under the stairs was a man and a women obviously homeless… it looked like they were living there but how could that be? I kept walking as my mind tried to make sense of what I had seen.

We had been in that stairway for one month. It was a good place, it was warm and people did not bother us. We did not like staying in one place for so long but it was getting harder for me to move around so often. My stomach was growing; the time was drawing nearer to when our baby would be born.

I asked my friend about the couple I had seen. He confirmed that they were living there, that they had been there for about a month, and that the girl was pregnant. I was shocked and pressed for more information but I quickly realised that my friend had never taken the time to try to talk to them or do anything for them. What could I do for them?

We were so excited about the baby. We have already chosen a name if the baby was a girl but we are still talking about a name for a boy. If didn’t matter that we lived on the streets, all that mattered was that we had each other. He loves me… he is the only one that has ever really loved me. You don’t give up on or throw away people you love and that is what everyone else had done to me.

That night I talked over the situation with my wife. She agreed that we needed to try to do something to help them. We prayed about it and decided to bring it up at the next days leaders meeting. Someone would have an idea! We went to bed that night excited, knowing that God was for this couple and that we could figure out a way to serve them.

I looked up as the door opened, I was waiting for him, he had gone to the store. I did not like being there alone but someone had to stay with our stuff. The man who walked in was not him so I looked back down but this man did not walk away. This man walked toward me. He wanted to talk to me. No, just leave us alone, I thought, just go away. He kept talking but I would not look at him or talk to him. He said he would come back again another day when my man was with me.

My wife asked me immediately when I returned home, did you talk to them? I told her that it was only the girl and she refused to talk or even look at me. I had told her repeatedly that I just wanted to talk to her. I asked her where her man was. In the end, I said I would come again another day. We prayed for them and just asked that God would be with them and protect them. We had decided that if they were willing we would allow them to live in our rehab center.
